About Us

Surgicare of Mobile opened and performed its first surgical procedure in December 1984, under the name of Mobile Eye Surgery Institute. In December 1992, Mobile Eye Surgery Institute merged with Medical Care International.  Medical Care merged with Columbia Healthcare in 1995, who sold the majority of their ambulatory surgery centers to Healthsouth Corporation in July of 1998, In July 2007, Surgical Care Affiliates, a private equity company, bought the surgical division of Healthsouth and became the general partner of Surgicare of Mobile.

In our 25 years of operation, we have grown from two operating rooms to five, one laser room to three, four credentialed surgeons to twenty eight, six teammates to sixty.  Along with ophthalmology, we added ENT (otolaryngology), neurosurgery, pain management, plastics, and urology specialties.

Our Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body meets quarterly to provide review of Performance Improvement activities, Patient Safety activities, Risk Management activities, Patient Satisfaction activities and other outcomes related to the facility.  We maintain the standards set forth by the licensure division of the State of Alabama and the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Surgery Division.  We are subject to unannounced surveys by the state department and undergo a rigorous survey every three years by AAAHC.
Surgicare does very little media advertising and works diligently to build its business on the basis of patient, visitor, and physician satisfaction.  Teammates recognize the patients, visitors and physicians as customers and treat them with courtesy and respect and provide them with a quality experience.
